How to keep your Seat at the table.

How do you keep your seat at the table? The answer is contained in this simple quote,

“When you think you have done enough, do one more.”

Why is this attitude so important - because it teaches you one of the most essential skills for life: to motivate yourself, to keep pushing, to keep going, to never be satisfied because you know you can still improve.

I don’t know who came up with that nonsense that at a certain age you are getting too old to be hired for a new job. This has never and never will apply to me. However, I can see how somebody can come up with this nonsense and how it made its way into human resource.

It comes from the general attitude that most people in society have. When they reach a certain age and a certain level of professional qualifications, they stop learning.

They stop doing that one more repetition, taking that necessary extra step.

They are satisfied with their current status not realizing that things around them are still evolving and still growing. They basically reach their comfort zone. If you get trapped into this kind of mindset then indeed, you are not only too old to be hired, but you are also too lazy to be employed.

You are no longer hungry and since you are no longer hungry, then indeed it is time for you to get up and leave the table.

When I tell my friends and family that “I’m still in school.” I get replies like, “Why Marcus? Aren’t you a little too old for that?”

Many times, it almost sounds like a joke that I am still learning, seeking and always hungry. Well, the truth is I am and not only that, I don’t know it any differently.

Why? Because I am a lifelong learner. I am a self-developer, a self-improver, and a self-cultivator.

To them I am crazy - to me, they have it all wrong. They use their age, their accomplishments and what they might have to excuse themselves from learning and evolving. I am sorry, but your seat at the table is already endangered and is set to be taken.
